A Mother's Thoughts

by Yvette, my special friend from California

To my little girls Vanity, Mystique, Davette, and Angelique.

Right now as I write this poem, you are all very young, but one day you will all grow up and wonder why Angelique (Angie) is different then yourselves and from most other children.

This is my description of Angie:

Angelique means Angel in French, in which she is our own special Angel sent from far away to teach us to be a better and closer family.

She is to teach us another part of life we did not know existed.

Angie has an extra chromosome in which makes her different then some.

They say their different shades of almond eyes can cross, some cannot see too well, and almost all have clogged tear ducts.

But what is not said is that those beautiful eyes only seek the goodness in people, they do not see colour or disabilities, they see what is in the heart.

They say that they have small hands with short fingers, and that some have the Sydney Palmar line, that it is difficult for them to clap or stack blocks.

But what they don't say is that their touch can move the unmoveable, and thaw the coldest of hearts They say that their little hearts almost always need mending But what they don't say is that they have the truest of hearts and when they love it is unconditionally, and forever and it is with all of their mended little hearts.

They say that their minds have a short memory span, some may have seizures, while others memories are not too good.

But what they don't say is how they never forget kindness, a favorite person or that special song.

All in all as you grow you will learn about children with that extra chromosome through Angie and as you already know we all love her for her and there is nothing we would change about her.

I also wanted to suggest a few things in the caring of these special children.

To have beautiful hair let a special child run its fingers through it once in a while.

To have pretty eyes seek the goodness in people as those special Angels do.

To have a nice figure share your food with those in need.

To have a pretty smile never lie and if the truth offends don't say anything at all.

Always remember that some may stop and stare at Angie and may even say something that will hurt, but as a Great Man once said "Forgive them because they do not know any better" and also know that when you walk in knowledge you will never walk alone.

I have learned a lot through Angie and my love for her has made it easier as well as rewarding, there is still a long road ahead and at times I get tired just thinking about it, but at least now I don't find it as difficult as I once did, and now it is not as lonely as I once thought it to be.
